The Different Types of Meets
Invitationals:
Invitationals are meets that Bell competes in outside of our league meets. Most of the these the whole team has the possibility to attend, but there are a couple that are varsity only. The invitationals tend to be on weekends, but sometimes might be on a Friday. Even though these are not league meets there is an expectation that all athletes will attend unless they have communicated otherwise with Coach.
WCALs:
These are our league meets. There are 3 WCAL events: WCAL 1, WCAL 2, and WCAL 3 (League Finals). WCAL 1 is traditionally held up at Golden Gate Park. WCAL 2 is usually held at Baylands Park in Sunnyvale (similar to our Baylands invitational), and WCAL 3 is held at Crystal Springs (Belmont along 280, Same as post season CCS). Scoring at each of these meets will determine league champions for all levels: Freshmen, Sophomore, JV, and Varsity.
CCS:
CCS is a post season race, that is also run at Crystals Springs like WCAL 3. This race will only be for the varsity team. This race is run by divisions. The cross country divisions in California are determined by your school enrollment. Bellarmine, since it is an all boys school, they will take our enrollment and double to match other co-ed schools. This puts us in Division 1 as a large school historically.
States:
In order for varsity to qualify to go to the California State Meet they must finish in the top 2 at CCS in Division 1. The state meet is held in Fresno at Woodward Park every year. It is usually held the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
